What is Family Support Services?

Family Support Services is a program designed to assist families who are caring for a family member with a disability, when that person resides in their home. Reimbursable services and supports through Family Support Services are tailored to the unique needs of the individual. Through FSS you can get information, referrals, respite care, and vouchers for the purchase of certain items.

How do I qualify for Family Support Services?

Anyone who qualifies for services from the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and lives with a family member, can use Family Support Services. A family means parents, brothers, sisters, spouse, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, or guardians. Family Support Services cannot be used in Foster Homes.

How much money is available for my family?

The Family Support Services Coordinator will tell you the amount available each year.

The goal of the Birth to Three Program is to provide strategies for parents and caregivers to promote the developmental skills of their children under three years old. Research has shown that the earlier children with disabilities begin receiving services, the better their development as they begin to mature.

The Birth to Three Program offers developmental stimulation and/or therapy in the area(s) of delay (as identified in your Individualized Family Service Plan).  Services are provided by an Early Intervention Specialist, an Occupational Therapist, a Physical Therapist, or a Speech Therapist.

Our services can be delivered in-home or at Forest Rose School in Lancaster. We can develop a schedule that meets the family’s needs.
