Grand Re-Opening of Art & Clay On Main
Art & Clay on Main, now an affiliate of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the new home of Blue Shoe Arts Studio, celebrated its Grand Re-Opening with events on July 15 and 17.
A ribbon-cutting was held on Thursday, July 15 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a reception as part of the Lancaster-Fairfield Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Cafe Series from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tammy Nusser from the Lancaster-Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster Mayor Dave Smith, County Commissioner Mike Kiger, and Blue Shoe Studio artists Amy Nimon and Marie Sowers assisted Fairfield DD Superintendent John Pekar in cutting the ribbon and welcoming the crowd.
The Grand Re-Opening kicked into high gear on Saturday, July 17 with activities for both children and adults scheduled for the entire day from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Included were activities geared toward children and families from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., including food, a clown, music, and a special discount of 10% off any ceramics project. Then at 6:00 p.m., the lights went down, the music slowed, and our first Date Night began!
“We opened in early June with limited hours so that we could train staff and have time to get some additional inventory of ceramics into the store,” said Kimberly Murray, General Manager of the Main Street studio and gallery. “We also needed to give Blue Shoe Arts ample time to prepare for its move.”
The Blue Shoe Arts Studio moved into the location at 150 West Main Street in downtown Lancaster July 1, and artists began working in their new studio following the 4th of July holiday.
“The thing that makes this unique is seeing our own Blue Shoe artists working right alongside artists from the community,” said John Pekar, superintendent of Fairfield DD. “Our goal is to develop a creative environment where people of all ages, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, can allow their creative juices to flow.”
