Mark Weedy, President

Dr. Mark Weedy retired on January 1, 2010, from Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools where he had served as Superintendent since 2005. He completed a total of 32 years in education and has also been a teacher and building principal. Mark has consistently been an advocate for individuals with special needs throughout his career. He most recently was instrumental in starting Project SEARCH, a collaborative program for special needs high school students at Fairfield Medical Center. Mark served for a brief time on the Board of Directors for Fairfield Industries before being appointed by the Fairfield County Commissioners to fill an unexpired term on the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Mark holds two bachelor's degrees from Miami University, a Master's Degree from Ball State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Miami University.

Sharon Scruggs

Sharon has works for Fairfield Medical Center as Manager of Contracts and Collections for over 20 years and attended Columbus Business University.   She and her husband reside in Bremen and are blessed with a wonderful family of 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Sheis a Certified Counselor for the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program ; Certified Application Counselor for the Insurance Marketplace;  and a member of several State and National organizations serving the healthcare industry.   She has a heart to serve our community and has a special interest in those with disabilities.

Theresa Nixon

Theresa Nixon was appointed to the Board in January, 2010 to fill an unexpired term. Theresa is the Supervisor of Case Management with the Columbus City Schools. Theresa has had a passion for services for persons with developmental disabilities since her teen years, volunteering her time and efforts with various programs and services through high school. Upon entering Kent State University, she began her education career and has been in the field of special education since.

Theresa served from 2000 to 2006 on the Fairfield Industries board. She also volunteers at the Spring Field Days, Columbus City Schools, Spring Special Olympics meet and participates annually in the the Run for the Rose 5K (although, as she says, "I walk and talk more than run!").

Theresa holds a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University and a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Kent State University.

Linda Barber

Linda is a graduate from the Ohio State University with a BS Degree in Microbiology. She has worked in the pharmaceutical field for the last 25 years and has been Head of Serology and Central Receiving Sections of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Her son is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, and her background for developmental disabilities was formed from her involvement in her son's educational opportunities and then as a young adult transitioning into full-time employment.

Bob Competti

Bob was appointed to the Board in July of 2014, to fill an unexpired term. He is the owner of Innerphase Video Productions, and co-owner of EDR Properties, a property management company in downtown Lancaster. Bob has always had a passion for persons with developmental disabilities since he was in high school, volunteering at various programs and events around the county.
 
He attended The University of Dayton and Devry Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in Electronic Engineering. He is a current board member of the American Red Cross, Past-President and member of the Lancaster Rotary, and serves on many marketing and event committees in the community. Bob resides in Carroll with his wife Beth, children Dominic and Ryan, and enjoys spending time with daughter Erin, son-in-law Patrick, grandson William, and granddaughter Emma.

Sharon Murphy

Sharon comes to the Fairfield DD Board with a background in education. She retired in 2014 from Bloom Carroll Schools after teaching first grade for 23 years and Special Education for seven years. Since her retirement, she has spent time substituting and traveling. A mother of four, she has a son with Down Syndrome and has been involved with Fairfield DD since his birth - from Early Intervention to the Opportunity Center. She also has spent many hours cheering on the athletes of Special Olympics.  

 

Elizabeth Burwell

A resident of Lancaster, Elizabeth and her husband Eric are the parents of two children. She is employed by the Fairfield County Juvenile Court as a Diversion Officer and has a strong background in Human Services and Corrections, as well as several years of experience working with children and families. 

 Burwell’s son has developmental delays and is currently attending preschool at Lancaster City Schools and has an IEP.  Elizabeth has worked diligently with her son's need for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and adaptive physical education services.  

As a result of her life experiences, she is a huge advocate for local children, assuring they receive the services and opportunities they need and deserve.
